Holiday Market + Closing Reception

Telephonebooth gallery 2020-2023 Winter Invitational

Dear Friends

In the 28th year of this project we have hit some milestones,
the location had some work done, the dust has mostly cleared,
and we move forward.

Closing reception including works from Lynus Young shared with the gallery for
the Winter Invitational of 2019-2020 and included in the Winter Invitational 2022-23.
This will be a coffee and orange juice affair December 16, 2023 9am - 2pm.
Maybe some pizza.

Lynus Bryan Young, 2019

An artist recently commented on Telephonebooth being unencumbered by a style,
I should have explained I was raised by rational thinking pluralists,
if I did lapse into a particular style as a gallerist I would find that unfortunate and boring.

Most artists understand if a gallery scene is oriented around art as entertainment that paradigm primarily benefits the owners of the circus not the performers. The other issue with entertainment art is the drive towards easily digestible content puts smart artists in last place.
Shows involving scholarship and curatorial acumen are considered "not accessible" and the result is safe, easy corporate production gets promoted, certified by consultants and collected.

jacket detail

After 23 years of shows there's an accumulation of art in the gallery backroom flatfile,
its helpful to dig out every once in a while and see what's there.

Fall Winter season has always been a good opportunity for that kind of project.
This year's annual expedition thru the archive will be available to witness only a few short hours on Saturdays December 15th and 22nd from 12-5pm.

There will be a selection of art available for purchase with cash, credit or payment plan.

Gallery Statement

“I have to give you credit, you are not very self aware, but if someone holds a mirror to your face, you are not afraid to look” Aaron Korsh

If Star Trek was some reflection on the id, ego and superego from the 60’s, maybe Suits has parallel for what recently passed as conversation between ideals of pluralism and tolerance.
